Robertson Boulevard Sidewalk Improvements

Client:City of Beverly Hills

Location:Beverly Hills, CA

Description

Environmental Construction was contracted to construct sidewalk improvements along one mile on the west side and 0.5 miles on the east side of Robertson Boulevard, from Burton Way to Whitworth Drive, due to aging, subgrade failure, and overgrown tree roots.  Necessary improvements included removing and replacing approximately 15% of sidewalks, curbs, and gutters, most of which are close in proximity to existing tree wells; evaluating numerous small driveways to determine if they meet ADA requirements; and nine curb ramps to be reconstructed to meet ADA requirements.  The overgrown roots of the Ficus trees along the sidewalks of Robertson Boulevard lifted up the concrete panels of the sidewalk and caused an uneven surface around the trees.  Unfortunately, the majority of the trees had to be removed to allow for the installation of the new sidewalk. Upon the completion of the new sidewalk installation, the removed trees were replaced with alternating Crape Myrtle trees and Mexican Fan Palms following the same pattern already established on parts of the sidewalk where Ficus trees have been removed and replaced in the past.
